LEARN TO PROGRAM THE YAESU FT-7800R

Make sure you follow the steps in the order shown below and you will Learn To Program the Yaesu
FT-7800R Amateur Radio.

GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
If you find yourself in the "Memory" mode instead of the "VFO mode"?
* To return to the "VFO" Mode,  Press  (V/M(MW)) key momentarily.

If you find yourself in the VFO mode and want to go into the "Memory" mode.
* Press the (V/M(MW)) key momentarily to enter the "Memory" mode.
          
STEP 1.  ENTER THE FREQUENCY
* When you are in the "VFO" Mode (Normal Mode) enter the Frequency you want to hear or store
using direct keypad entry (easiest way).
For example a frequency of 145.390 just press these numbers on the keypad on the microphone
145390, you do not need to put the decimal period in.
    
STEP 2.  SHIFT OR OFFSET DIRECTION
* Next set the "Shift / Offset" direction of the repeater you are trying to access. This Radio has an
ARO (Automatic Repeater Offset) system built in to it.
This "ARO" automatically sets the + or - offset direction depending on the Frequency you selected
in step #1 above. However, if you want to change the direction it has automatically selected for you
then do the following:
* Press and hold in the (BAND SET) key for half a second to enter the Set Mode.
* Rotate the DIAL knob to select Menu #33 (SHIFT).
* Press the (BAND SET) key momentary, then rotate the DIAL knob to select the desired shift, the
choices are: "RPT-", "RPT +" or "RPT OFF".
* When you have made your choice, Press the (BAND SET) key momentarily.
* To save the setting, then Press the (BAND SET) key for half a second to exit to normal operation
(VFO) Mode.
    
STEP 3.  PL - TONE AND FREQUENCY ACTIVATION (CTCSS)
* Pree the (TONE(REV) key several times so that "ENC" appears on the display,  this activates the
TONE feature, which allows repeater access.
* Press and hold in the (BAND SET) key for half a second to enter the Set Mode, then rotate the
DIAL Knob to select menu #44 (TN FRQ).  This menu selection allows setting of the Tone
Frequency to be used.
* Press the (BAND(SET) key momentarily to allow adjustment of the Tone.
* Rotate the DIAL knob until the display indicates the Tone Frequency you want.
* When you have made your selection, press the (BAND(SET) key momentarily  to save the new
setting, then press and hold in the (BAND(SET) key for half a second to exit to normal operation.      
    
STEP 4.  STORING IT ALL INTO REGULAR MEMORY CHANNEL OPERATION
* Make sure you have done all of the steps above.
* Press and hold in the (V/M(MW)) key for half a second.  A memory number will appear blinking on
the display.
* Within 10 seconds of pressing the (V/M(MW)) key, use the DIAL knob or the  microphones (UP /
DOWN) buttons to select the desired memory number (channel number) for storage.  
Note: If the
channel is already occupied by other data stored previously, the "Channel Frequency" notation
will appear on the display and you need to select a different memory (channel) number).
* Press the (VM(MW)) key momentarily to save your entry and exit to normal operation, which is the
VFO Mode.
* Now continue the above steps again to program more frequencies and Learn How To Program
The Yaesu FT-7800R. The more you do it, the easier you will learn how to do it.

If you want to upgrade to a computer software program we would recommend the one below. We have no relationship
with this company but we have tried the software and find it very simple and easy to use. So just FYI here it is.

FTB7800 is a memory management program for the FT-7800R. You can get more information at the following website.

You can try the program for 2 weeks to check that it works on your equipment but you cannot write to the radio until it is
registered.  You can also download the program from thie same website.
