LEARN TO PROGRAM THE RADIO SHACK HTX-252

Make sure you follow the steps in the order shown below and you will Learn To Program the Radio
Shack HTX-252 Amateur Radio.

GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
When you turn the radio on, it will automatically default to the "VFO" Mode.
The "VFO" Mode is the mode you will want to be in to program the Radio Shack HTX-252. So we
will assume you are in the "VFO" Mode now.

STEP 1.
TO SELECT THE FREQUENCY YOU WANT TO PROGRAM
* You can either use the Tuning Knob on the Radio to select the frequency or you can use the "UP"
or "Down" buttons on the top of the microphone.
* Enter the Receive Frequency you want to store into memory using either of the above methods.
This will also be the Frequency you want to listen to or the Repeater Frequency.                
                          
STEP 2.
TO SELECT THE OFFSET FREQUENCY
* Press "F+(LOCK) SHIFT" Buttons on the Microphone Keypad.
The offset frequency and the minus (-) sign will appear.
* The "Offset Frequency" will appear and typically show 600 kHz which appears as 0.60 MHz. This
is the standard default frequency setting in the radio.        
* If you want to change the "Offset Frequency" other than the 600 kHz default setting then use the
"UP" or "Down" buttons on the microphone or you can use the Tuning Knob on the radio to
change it. You can select a value from 100kHz to 8.000 MHz.
* When you have made your selection pree the PTT Knob on the microphone to save your setting.  
The selected value will be saved and the operating frequency appears. Optionally you can just wait
5 seconds and it will save it for you automatically.                
PTT meaning Press To Talk Button on the side of the Microphone.                        
                          
STEP 3.
TO SELECT AN OFFSET FREQUENCY DIRECTION        
* Repeatedly Press the "F+(LOCK) SHIFT" Buttons on the Microphone Keypad to change the
current Offset Direction (+ or -) or neither for simplex operation. Simplex operation meaning
non-repeater operation.
Neither meaning the (+ or -) sign will not appear on the LCD Display.
* When you have made your selection pree the PTT Knob on the microphone to save your setting.  
The selected Offset Frequency will be saved and the operating frequency appears. Optionally you
can just wait 5 seconds and it will save it for you automatically.

STEP 4.
TO SELECT THE TONE FREQUENCY - PL TONE
* Press "F" On the Microphone, then Press "T-SQ" on the Radio.
Both of the above are different operations, not together.
NOTE: After the above operation you will have to be fast to do the next operation, approximately
(within 5 seconds) or the radio will store the setting shown on the display automatically and you
will have to start this STEP 4 again. So know what PL Tone you want to set before starting with
STEP 4.        
* To change the PL Tone you can either use the Tuning Knob on the Radio to select the Tone
Frequency (PL Tone) or you can use the "UP" or "Down" buttons on the top of the microphone.
* When you have selected your PL TONE press PTT to save your setting.
PTT meaning Press To Talk Button on the side of the Microphone.

STEP 5.
NOW YOU WILL STORE ALL YOUR INFORMATION into Memory
* Press " F" on the Microphone and then Press "MS" on the Radio.        
A memory number will appear blinking on the LCD display if the number is empty.
* If you want to change the memory number it shows flashing use the "UP" or "DOWN" buttons on
the microphone or use the Tuning Knob on the Radio to change to a different memory number. You
are actually best to just use the memory number it selects for you. Ok next.
* Press "MR" on the Radio and it will store your Program Data into the memory number you
selected.
* Press "VFO" on the Radio to exit from the Memory Mode.
NOTE: Your Radio has 10 Standard Memory locations that you can use to store frequencies.         

* Now continue the above steps again to add more frequencies and Learn To Program the Radio
Shack HTX-252 Amateur Radio.
